I’ve been involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for the past 6 years. First as a “Big” and more recently, as a member of their board of directors. I got involved with the organization mainly because I believe strongly in their mission and also because I had an impactful experience personally. Many of the kids we mentor have never had anyone in their corner to support them. Childhood interactions as simple as getting help with homework or playing catch with mom or dad doesn’t exist in many of their worlds.

Like all charities, their reach and impact is directly correlated with the financial/ time support they receive from our local community.  In recent years, NYS has been less helpful in providing grants and funding so individual fundraising has become essential in developing and sustaining “successful matches” (between child and big).  $1200 supports the expenses needed to sustain one match for a full calendar year.  We appreciate any consideration to support us.
